Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is crack sealing and why would I need it?
A: Crack sealing fills pavement cracks with hot rubberized sealant to stop water from getting under the asphalt. This helps prevent potholes, slows deterioration, and extends the life of your driveway or parking lot.
Q: When can traffic drive on crack sealing?
A: Crack sealing cools fast and is typically traffic ready in 1 to 2 hours.
Q: What is sealcoating and how long does it last?
A: Sealcoating is a protective surface treatment that helps reduce oxidation, water penetration, and surface wear. It typically lasts 3 to 5 years depending on traffic and weather.
Q: When can traffic drive on sealcoating?
A: Foot traffic is usually fine after 6 to 8 hours in warm, dry conditions. Vehicles require 24 hours.
Q: Can you sealcoat in cold or rainy weather?
A: No. Sealcoating needs dry conditions and temperatures above 10°C. Crack sealing can be done in cooler weather, but rain delays both services.
Q: What is asphalt patching?
A: Asphalt patching removes failed pavement and replaces it with new hot mix asphalt. We cut out the weak area, prepare a solid base, install new asphalt, and compact it to restore strength and smoothness.
Q: When can traffic drive on asphalt patches?
A: In typical conditions, patches are usually ready for normal vehicle traffic the same day.
Q: What is line painting and road marking?
A: Line painting and road marking refresh parking stalls, fire lanes, arrows, stop bars, and symbols to improve safety, traffic flow, and curb appeal.
Q: How long does line painting take to dry?
A: Dry time depends on weather and surface conditions. We will give you an on site reopen time, and we can usually stage the work to keep access moving.
Q: Do you do stencils like accessible symbols, arrows, and custom markings?
A: Yes. We can apply standard stencils and custom markings, and we confirm layout before paint is applied.
Q: Do you work with stratas and property managers?
A: Yes. We work with stratas, commercial plazas, industrial yards, municipalities, and property managers across Vancouver Island. Evening and weekend scheduling is available to reduce downtime.
Q: Will my business need to close during work?
A: Not usually. In most cases we can phase the work so certain areas stay open while others are completed.
Q: Are you insured and licensed?
A: Yes. VI Asphalt Repair is licensed, insured, and WorkSafeBC covered. COIs can be provided upon request.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Pricing depends on size, prep work, and the service needed. We provide free estimates. Send the address and a few photos.
Q: Why should I maintain instead of repaving?
A: Maintenance costs far less than repaving and can add years of life by protecting the base and slowing down damage.
Q: Do you guarantee your work?
A: Yes. We stand behind our workmanship. For full details, see our Warranty Policy.
